Week Ending Shopping Update

I really should have posted this trip last Saturday, because that’s when I made this trip.  But the clock has not been my friend lately.  I paid right at $55 for everything pictured including 5 Pepperidege Farm Breads, 2 Stayfree, 2 Carefree, 1 Ragu, 30 BirdsEye Veggies, 4 V8 Fusions, 4 Ultra Grain Flour, 8 Kraft Fresh Taste, 10 French’s Fried Onions, 1 bag white rice, 4 Wishbone Ranch Dressings, 1 Hellmann’s Mayo, 1 Smithfield Bacon, 2 Silk Fruit & Protein, 5 Pepperidge Farm Cakes, and 2 Alexia Breads.

I realize there may be some controversial items from this trip that alot of you may not think of as healthy.  Remember, sometimes the budget dictates what we can buy/not buy and that includes my clock budget.

I go to school full time, homeschool my son, blog, write, and I do all of this on my own as a single mom.  I do most everything I can from scratch when I have the ingredients around.  For the most part, all of our meals include mostly organic, real food.  There may be condiments or other extras that are not.  I feel better knowing the bulk of it is though.  That’s what I can do for now.

There were several items on sale at Publix this past week that hit our guilty pleasure buttons:  bacon, cheese, ranch dressing, fried onions, V8 Splash and mayonnaise.  Not just ANY mayonnaise, Hellmann’s.  Thanks for that addiction, Grandma! LOL

I do not have the resources to make all of these things from scratch all the time.  For example, ranch dressing.  I have a powder mix I made from scratch so that when I do have the dairy products I need to make it homemade, that’s what I do.  More times than not, I don’t have organic dairy to do this.  And I cannot afford the organic versions of the salad dressing.  So this is one of those Catch 22 situations.

The cakes are for church fundraisers.  I am donating them as part of Sunday dinners we will be selling for mission trips throughout the summer for the youth department.  I don’t bake, first of all, unless it’s roasting chicken.  Secondly, we have window air conditioning units and both are on the opposite ends of the house from the kitchen.  You turn the oven on in my house, it better be below freezing outside.  Otherwise, you will be in a full sweat like it’s 100 degrees!  So for energy usage it just makes sense for us to contribute this way.  Plus with the coupons I was able to get five cakes to donate.  If I had made it from scratch, there would have just been one to donate most likely.

I am stocking up on fried onions because they never go on sale BOGO WITH a coupon out, too.  I love them.  My favorite way to eat them is lightly sprinkled on a bowl of split pea soup.  I am watching my diet lately even more than normal to break through this plateau with my weight loss and will be eating a bowl of split pea soup every day.  I will be making fresh fried onions for that.  These fried onions I bought are for when everything breaks loose in the world and I just need a fried onion. LOL!

This next week I am starting to make all our bread from scratch from now on.  The 15 year old eats at least a sandwich a day.  When you buy nothing but whole grain bread, the good kind, it gets expensive.  Someone gave me a breadmaker so I don’t have to worry about not using the oven anymore.  I found some coupons for Ultra Grain flour and it’s on sale at Publix right now making it $1.69/5 lb bag for the whole wheat kind.  I have 20 coupons and I’m buying 20 bags!  So maybe in the future I will be making more of our guilty pleasures from scratch after all…

What you can barely see in the picture is 30 different bags of BirdsEye frozen vegetables, too.  Other than them not being organic, you can’t beat .50/bag for fresh frozen vegetables!

But the best trip in a while, at least in my opinion, was my trip to Aldi this week.  I was able to get everything pictured for under $23!!!  Here is a list of everything:

  • 4 dozen eggs
  • 4 celery
  • 2 onions
  • 2 carrotts
  • 4 bags of beans
  • 10 lbs potatoes
  • 2 pineapples
  • 3 broccoli
  • 3 cauliflower
  • 1 bag sweet potatoes

So now I don’t feel so bad about some of the things I bought at Publix!

Do any of you buy guilty pleasure items sometimes?

Weekly Shopping

I only went two places this week, Kroger and Walgreens.  I have to make a run to Publix and Kroger tomorrow but, those trips aren’t making it in time for the weekly shopping post.

At Kroger I intended to get my free Easter candy and toothpaste but grabbed a few deals I found when I got to the store.  The Muir Glen spaghetti sauce was on clearance and so was the Private Selection Mortadella.  I had coupons for both, of course!  Plus I had been gone from the house for 13 hours and hadn’t eaten since twelve and it was almost 8 at night, the buttermilk was dinner.  Don’t think I’m weird!  It’s good for you and VERY filling.

I paid $11.06 for everything and saved $85.49 or 89%.  BUT, I actually did better than that.  When I got home I found they didn’t scan six of my $1 off coupons for all the candies.  I will be going back to collect.  And when I do I will have paid $5.06 for everything and saved 91.49 or 95%!

Another exciting thing at check out, for buying all that Mars candy I got a $5/1 gift card purchase catalina.  I’m going to use this at Publix for the gas card deal this week :)   SWEET!

All the candy and toothpaste will be donated, too.

I went to Walgreens for one thing only, cheap almonds!  I got all 8 cans of these Blue Diamond Almonds for $8.39.  SCORE!

We also went to Goodwill since we hadn’t been in a while.  And what do you know, they had a Black & Decker Juicer!!!  I have been HAUNTING Goodwill for this and a few other things for months and finally found one.  But, it gets better.  The day we went, yellow was the half price color.  Guess what color the price tag was on the juicer?!?!  You guessed it, yellow!  It was marked $6.99 so I got this bad boy for $3.50.  I also scored some pretty baby blue coffee mugs and an Ikea stainless thermos.  I went home a VERY happy camper.

Walgreens Olay & Suave Deal

I stumbled upon a blog in a week end shopping linky, sorry I don’t remember which one now.  The blogger had done this similar deal and I knew I had the coupons to do it so I gave it a shot.

Everything pictured:

  • 6 Suave Body Washes-$2/each then I used 2-B2G1 coupons and received a $3 RR
  • 5 Oil of Olay Body Washes-FREE with a B1 Facial Cleanser and G1 Free Body Wash
  • 6 Oil of Olay Facial Cleansers-$4.99/each and I used 3-$3/2 Olay Facial Cleanser Coupons
  • 5 Oil of Olay Body Products-.29/each on clearance and I used the $2/1 Olay coupons
  • 18 Milky Way Caramel Eggs-FREE with the $1/2 Mars Easter coupons
  • 2 Gorton’s Shrimp Bowls-$1.29/each on clearance with a .50/1 Gorton’s Items Coupons

I did two different transactions and paid $28.80 for everything pictured.  I saved $105.10 or 79%!  Not bad for someone who DOES NOT do the drug store game, right?

Anyone else coupon shop at drug stores?

Harris Teeters Triple Coupons Trip

This picture is of two transactions.  Not pictured are some grapes that just didn’t make it bless their eaten hearts and a 12 pack of Scott tissue.  I spent $40.57 and saved $83.54 or 67%.  Not bad for the first time to HT in probably 6 months, right?    The fruit and toilet tissue blew my savings percentage.  I know I should have waited for the eVic special on Scott tissue until Saturday morning but we needed tissue NOW!  Been there?

I will be going back today for round two and the eVic special for Pop Tarts-for a friend, Scott toilet tissue-yes, more because you can never have enough toilet tissue, and more Gorton’s-we just LOVE these!

Have you been able to take advantage of triple coupons this time around?

Publix Trip 3/11/12

This trip is another example of why I LOVE Publix!  My store had ALL of the Oscar Meyer Selects marked as part of the BOGO.  But apparently it was only supposed to be the new long ones that are different flavors like Chicago and New York I think.  But The Turkey Selects were marked at my store as well.  When I got to the cash register, the manager let me get them anyway.  Of course they went and took the sign down.  I even offered to put them back and completely understood the mix up.  I told them I wouldn’t be upset.  They insisted I get my hot dogs…  LOVE Publix!!!

I spent $10.98 and saved $51.98 or 83%.  And I’m glad to have a start on my summer stock of nitrate free hot dogs!!!  Here is everything I took home:

10 Yakisoba Packs-.88 MONEY MAKER

1 Hunt’s Ketchup-.98

6 French’s Worcestershire Sauce-$1.14

4 Philadelphia Indulgence-FREE

Produce including 1 Napa Cabbage, 1 Honey Mango, 1 Papaya, 1 Coconut, and 1 Cabbage-$8.43 for everything (used two of the $2/$5 Purchase on Publix Produce Printable Coupons)
