DIY Beginner Level Crochet

Thanks to one of our readers, Melissa-who is an expert crocheter, has put together some information for those of us who would like to learn to crochet.  If you start now and perfect  your skills, you could be good enough to make cheap, useful Christmas presents for everyone you know!

First go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVBnFHGbeK4, How to Crochet:  Lesson 1 Video on YouTube.  This video will teach you visually step by step how to crochet simple stitches and learn the techniques and terminology associated with this craft.  There are six lessons in the series you can learn from.  After you finish the first, you can just keep going.  You can also follow The Art of Crochet by Teresa on Facebook, http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Art-of-Crochet-by-Teresa/57794806183.

Melissa will be sharing yarn arts information and patterns periodically for those of you who love it!  Let us know if you have questions or requests in the comments.  In case you are like me and have carpal tunnel or lack of time to enjoy crocheting, Melissa sells her wares on her site, http://www.etsy.com/shop/upontopbowtique.  I was fortunate enough to be able to buy ten handmade yarn crafts items from her last Christmas for gifts and my family LOVED them!

Below are PDF’s of two beginner level hat patterns.  After you have watched the videos and have a grasp of what to do and how to do it, take a look at the patterns and see what you can do.  Again, if you have problems or questions, post them in comments and we will help you figure it out.  Share pictures of your attempts with everyone else!
