I have said it many, many times, you can make a difference no matter how little your contribution! What you’re looking at here is 14 paper case boxes FULL of donated items that went to my church food pantry last week after the move. When I say full boxes, I mean FULL BOXES. Like these:
And that is only the inside of four boxes. If I stopped and thought about it I could come up with a list of everything that was donated. But I don’t have the time. Trust me when I say, it was approximately $1,000.00 worth of food, hygiene, cleaning and baby items. This is after the food pantry has consistently given away about 5 boxes per month for the past 6-8 months and after our Thanksgiving and Christmas box giveaways that were 15 boxes each.
I really cannot tell you how simple it is to make a difference and help someone. I have been on the receiving end of a food box at a food bank. Being a single mom is tough. There were days, weeks even, I made sure my son had something to eat while I made one pot of beans and one pan of cornbread last all week for myself for supper and a ramen noodle for lunch. It wasn’t easy. I hated pretending I liked ramen all the time. Not that I don’t like them at all, but when that’s all you have, they get old.
The food boxes you get at most food banks and pantries are helpful and I was very grateful. But they are nowhere near sufficient. That’s why my donate button starts with as little as $1. We help people with body wash, bar soap, razors, shaving cream, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bathroom cleaner, deodorant, dish soap, canned meats, butter, frozen vegetables, cooking oil, first aid items, paper towels and a few treats to make the recipients feel special as if someone really cared about them and wanted them to have something nice. Because honestly, I do, we do. The way Christ showed love, true love, was He came to serve first. He served then He told them about His Father.
Bargain Blessings Pantry has turned into so much more than I ever though it could, and it is still growing and evolving. It’s a huge blessing to me to hear stories of how families are touched and helped by our coupon shopping. So help spread the love and show someone you care. It doesn’t take much of you. Take a few extra minutes to look over the sale ad and find items for .50 or less, clip a few extra coupons, spend a few extra pennies and give.
